This is a blog for the staff of the Meyer Neighborhood Library! Place the little shortcuts and post-its you would leave on the desk for your colleagues here. Do not place anything of a confidential nature here. This is a collaborative notebook. All staff will have access; however, the manager reserves the right to edit.

FLOOD MAPS
- Yes: We have have the new Flood Maps
- They are located in the shelving across from the manager's desk
(the maps are in numerical order) - The patron may request one map at a time and must know the map number of the panel they need
- There is a map index for customers who need to find their panel number
- Customers need to locate their panel number (if we provide wrong number we could have a liability issue)

Touch-a-truck vs/ Princess Daisy
According to everything we produced *here*, tomorrow we will have Princess Daisy the Clown.
According to everything produced off site (The monthly event calendar and the website), we are having something called Touch-A-Truck.
The *real* answer us that we have Princess Daisy coming. The Touch-a-truck event was a backup event in case she could not be booked.
Unfortunately, this is what made it into the printed schedule.
If anyone calls and asks, the Touch-a-truck event is a mistake and we will be having Princess Daisy the Clown.
Thanks,
Brandon

Harry Potter Part Deux
Thanks Fred!!!
Harry Potter
Apparently one box of our Harry Potter books got sent to Mancuso by mistake. This is being fixed, however it looks like it might not be here till Tuesday.
If anyone asks (and hopefully they won't), just say there was a problem with delivery and it will be here on Tuesday at the latest.
Thanks

Erratic patron
He was mid top late 20s African American male and everytime he has come in, he has been wearing red cloths. He has a line on his head, but it is unclear if that is a part or if it is a scar.
He normally has headphones and he wants to listen to Tupak songs online.
Yesterday, he chased and threatened a 15 year old boy into the library.
We called the police, but before they got here, he got on a bus and left.
I've found out that he has been a repeating problem at Frank.
Today when he came in, I told him he had to leave and when he didn't, I called the police.
Once again, he left before they got here, but now they know about him.
If he comes in again, do not even approach him. Just call 911 and tell them that a man who we have asked to leave has come back in the library. Tell them that we need an officer to escort him off the property.
If I am here, come and get me immediately.

Taking stuff seriously
However (you knew there was one) this can cause problems. Yesterday at one point, I tried to get She Who Will Remain Nameless to come out to help someone at the desk. She thought that I was kidding and it took several frantic gestures before she finally came out to see. She thought I was just joking around. At another point yesterday, we had an incident with a patron trying to assault another. When someone ran to the back to tell me, my first thought was that they were kidding around and I didn't react as quickly as I might have otherwise.
This has led me to make some ground rules.
First, please do not joke, kid, or act humorously around the idea that 911 needs to be called. If you say this, it *needs* to be for real.
Second, several of us were talking last night about the need for a codeword. This is something you can say that means 'What I am telling you is true. Please treat it seriously'. I ask that no one use this codeword for anything *but* the truth.
The code word we came up with is 'Geronimo'. If someone asks you to do something, or tells you something and they say Geronimo, that means they are serious. (Not upset or anything, just that they are not kidding around).
If we can follow these two rules, we should be able to continue as we have been while still taking care of business.
Please post her your questions or concerns.
Thanks,
Brandon

FYI: Harry Potter and The Deathly Hollows
=====================================
NEWS! NEWS! NEWS!
HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS IS NEARLY HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is once again time for the new Harry Potter book to be released. Baker and Taylor will be sending us the copies in advance of the release date. This means that every branch will have their copies of the book on Saturday July 21st. All 285 copies are currently on hold for customers and will arrive at your location in IN-TRANSIT status. The boxes will arrive with the label DO NOT OPEN UNTIL SATURDAY JULY 21ST! on Friday the 20th in delivery. DO NOT open the boxes until Saturday and keep them locked up someplace safe until Saturday morning. We have signed a contract agreeing that the book will not be available until the 21st. This means staff holds too. On Saturday morning open the box or boxes. Scan the items and place them on the hold shelf. In the past some locations have chosen to hold the books behind the circulation desk for added security. Fred Schumacher will send out hold notices at 10:00 am Saturday morning notifying our customers that the books are available. We wish to continue to take advantage of this privilege in the future so please do not violate the release date under any circumstances.
Also, in order to make this work, the customer’s number in the holds queue may change briefly before the books are placed in transit. Please assure any customers who call that if their hold was in the first 285 it will be there on Saturday no matter what their number changed to.
Legal disclaimers:
Anyone caught opening boxes in advance will be automatically placed under the cruciatus curse (see Harry potter and the goblet of fire) that can only be lifted by replacing the books and resealing the box.

Emergency supplies
This is the new official location of all of our emergency supplies. It contains things like a flashlight, a lantern, 6 MREs (including the coveted Cheese Tortolinni), batteries, duct tape and a toolkit.
We are going to be getting some other things (like a first aid kit, a military cot and blanket, etc.) and when they arrive, please place them on my desk or in the container.
If anyone has any questions, please let me know.
Thanks!
Brandon
Welcome!
Sarah Ortiz has created this for us, and I think it's going to be a lot of help!
Sarah and I will be posting schedules here, as well as anything we think you need to know. We invite all of you to leave comments and questions.
I have added a series of links that you might find useful on the right. If you can think of anything else, please let me know.
It is my hope that this blog will help all of us communicate better and serve as a central online location to gather all of the announcements that I frequently have to track each of you down to share.
Thanks!
Brandon
